This dress was designed for my daughter who loves to wear pretty feminine dresses with loads of detail and as long a hem as possible. Pinnate was designed to have a detailed lace section while still being appropriate for a young girl to wear. The skirt is full without being overwhelming and the bottom lace hem gives detail without being fussy. The lace back panel allows the hem of the skirt in the back to dip lower than the front which means the hem can appear lower but not trip the child. Pinnate was named after the feather like features of a lavender flower the lace in this pattern mimics the structure of the petals.
“Pinnate: resembling a feather especially in having similar parts arranged on opposite sides of an axis like the barbs on the rachis of a feather”

You are truly a genius -- what an amazing pattern!! Love it...
ReplyDeleteHow long did this dress take you to knit Mehgan?
ReplyDeleteI just finished making your Cloche divine with Super 10 Kertzer cotton in Delphinium blue and then made a ruffled scarf to match (Just enough ruffles by Laura Chau). Loved both!
Hi mamabear60, this dress took longer than the test knitters as I had made a mistake in my initial writeup, but! some testers were done in about 2.5 weeks and others took 5 weeks. The largest size especially takes a bit with such a long and full skirt, but well worth it I think :)xo Meghan
ReplyDeletejust wondering if you could tell me what level of knitting i should be at to attempt this dress. i love it and i have a 6 year old lady who would also love to wear this. gorgeous patterns!!
ReplyDeleteI think that an intermediate level is probably appropriate, the lace is pretty simple but there are points on the dress where increases and lace are happening at the same time and increases and decreases are happening at the same time. If you are having difficulty with any of my patterns you can always email me at the email located on the bottom of each page xo M
